I thought of my mom when I made this set.   She's 81 years old and makes quilts for donation to foster children.   She's probably made hundred of quilts throughout the years.   She started me on my first quilt at at 6 years old - a pink and white 9-patch.   She and my grandmother taught me to embroider, crochet, knit and mend.   My love of sewing comes from them.   Except for the mending. I don't love mending.

My love of crafting comes from my grandmother on my dad's side.   She created things out of shells, wood and found objects.   She made the crowns for the queen and her court of the Apple Blossom Festival in Manson, Washington beginning in 1947.  Before she died, she made a permanent set which is still in use.   Here are pictures of her crown and scepter which is used only for the parade each year.   The queens now get a different handmade set to keep.

I did this entire design in red work.
The designs are from Designs by SICK.   I put a tiny eggshell colored teacup on the top of the thimble case.  I did not make my mom a sewing set simply because she has so much stuff she would just stick it somewhere and never find it again.   I took her out to brunch instead and brought her flowers for my dad to plant in their already floralicious yard.
