About the Sets
These sets are not
mass produced. They are made
one at a time and are all unique.
I may repeat a theme but I will never repeat a box. Each one
takes several days to make.
I begin with a cigar
box. I buy them in lots
online and I never quite know what I will get.
Some of them are quite lovely with lacquered wood and interesting
designs. Some are square; some
are rectangle; some are high and some are low.
I like the high ones the best because they fit the thimble boxes
better.
Then I decide on a
theme whatever appeals to me at any given moment. I read a book and
think, Huh. This would make
a good box. I begin pulling
together pieces that would fit the design.
I find embellishments everywhere from craft stores to garage
sales to thrift shops to ebay.
Sometimes I find a great piece and begin a theme around the
embellishment. I found a
crystal embedded telephone and decided on a phone-themed box.
Sometimes I have a
box just sitting waiting for me to find the perfect thimble box.
The Twilight set that is coming soon is an example.
I knew what I wanted to do but wanted to find the perfect bitten
apple thimble box. Once I
found it, I could complete the set.
I find the
embroidery designs in different places.
Some of my favorites are:
My favorite place to
get the thimble boxes is on ebay.
They can be pricey but the variety is great.
The price with shipping ranges
from about $6 to $40, depending on the quality of the piece.
Sometimes I get lucky and get a great piece for a bargain price.
