About the Sets

These sets are not mass produced. They are made one at a time and are all unique. I may repeat a theme but I will never repeat a box. Each one takes several days to make.

I begin with a cigar box. I buy them in lots online and I never quite know what I will get. Some of them are quite lovely with lacquered wood and interesting designs. Some are square; some are rectangle; some are high and some are low. I like the high ones the best because they fit the thimble boxes better.

Then I decide on a theme whatever appeals to me at any given moment. I read a book and think, Huh. This would make a good box. I begin pulling together pieces that would fit the design. I find embellishments everywhere from craft stores to garage sales to thrift shops to ebay. Sometimes I find a great piece and begin a theme around the embellishment. I found a crystal embedded telephone and decided on a phone-themed box.

Sometimes I have a box just sitting waiting for me to find the perfect thimble box. The Twilight set that is coming soon is an example. I knew what I wanted to do but wanted to find the perfect bitten apple thimble box. Once I found it, I could complete the set.

My favorite place to get the thimble boxes is on ebay. They can be pricey but the variety is great. The price with shipping ranges from about $6 to $40, depending on the quality of the piece. Sometimes I get lucky and get a great piece for a bargain price.
